Tips

To make the best of this experience, we highly recommend a couple of products that will help you restore your garments to next to new condition.

Oxy Clean

We've no idea what's in this stuff, but it will restore your whites to WHITE if used in the following manner...used 4 scoops in your top-loading washer, fill to level appropriate for load, add clothing of like colors (lt pink, yellow, white, etc.) and let soak for 24 hours. Wash as usual. This process will generally remove perspiration and most other stains. Great for general white laundry as well.

Sizing

You know when you purchase a garment and it feel slightly crisp? This is the product used to obtain that feeling. It's not starch, and we don't recommend using starch (too stiff). Sizing can generally be purchased at the grocery store, but we've frequently seen it at the $1 type stores as well. It really makes a tremendous difference in the appearance and saleability of your clothing. Additionally, we often price the items higher due to appearance. Once you try it, you'll use it whenever you press anything, we promise!!

Sanding Blocks

They build foam-filled sanding blocks, which we purchase by the half dozen at Harbor Freight for very little money, that are indispensable when it comes to removing those little pills or balls that seem to come from nowhere. Buy the sanding block in the finest grit possible. Place your garment on a table, hold one end down with your body, the other with your non-dominant hand and lightly sand those little things away. Just be careful on delicate garments so that you don't sand so hard you put a hole in them.

Baby Wipes

These aren't only for baby anymore. Use unscented, oil-free baby wipes for cleaning shoes, inside and outside purses, leather jackets, just to name a few. We find that these generally leave your items clean and spot free.

Other Tips

  • Adhesive residue: Goo-Gone
  • Permanent Marker: Isopropyl or Rubbing Alcohol
  • Staples: Needlenose pliers
  • Ink: Rubbing Alcohol
  • Smoke: Frebreeze, Dryel or air garments outdoors overnight
  • Blood: Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Perspiration Stains: Oxyclean (see above)

NOTE: IF ITEMS ARE CONSIGNED WITH SPOTS OR DAMAGE, WE WILL TRY THE ABOVE AND DONATE THEM IF WE ARE UNSUCCESSFUL AT REMOVING EITHER.
